Koeberg nuclear fuel

‘No immediate crisis’ for Koeberg over lapse of nuclear fuel agreement with the US

Koeberg lapsed nuclear fuel agreement with the US 2022 The Koeberg lapsed nuclear fuel agreement with the US will not be renewed when it expires in 2022. The agreement, which was signed in 2014, allowed for the exchange of low-enriched uranium (LEU) between South Africa and the United States. Under this agreement, South Africa received LEU from the US to use as fuel at its Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant while also supplying enriched uranium back to the US.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) assured there was no immediate crisis regarding the expiry of the nuclear co-operation agreement between South Africa and the US and the subsequent suspension of Westinghouse’s (Eskom’s nuclear fuel supplier) license to supply Koeberg.

Our opinion is to move to Solar Power as soon as you can
